Purpose group
Approved document B, Fire Safety, Volume 2, Buildings other than dwellinghouses (2019 edition), defines purpose group as:
'A classification of a building according to the purpose to which it is intended to be put. (See Table 0.1.)'
Table 0.1 includes the following purpose groups:
- Residential (dwellings)
- Residential (institutional)
- Residential (other)
- Office
- Shop and commercial
- Assembly and recreation
- Industrial
- Storage and other non-residential
